The sun is by far the biggest source - a bright day floods your eyes with more blue than a screen could dream of. Yet we worry about the phone, not the sky. The sun: powerful, but well-timed
Sunlight is intensely blue-rich, and that's not a flaw - it's the point. That daytime blue is the signal that sets your body clock, lifts your mood and keeps you alert. Your eyes evolved to meet it. The catch is only at the extreme high-energy end - UV and the deepest violet - which is genuinely harsh, and which any good lens should block. The rest of the sun's blue, met in daylight, is doing you a favour.
Screens: weaker, but badly timed
A screen emits a fraction of the sun's blue. On its own, at midday, it's nothing to fear. The trouble is when and how we meet it: up close, for hours, often late into the night. A weak source, held near your eyes at 11pm, still sends your brain a "daytime" message at the worst possible moment. That's the real issue - not power, but timing and proximity.

What this means for your lenses
This is why a single "blue-blocking" lens worn all day is a blunt answer. By day, you want to keep some of that circadian blue - so a good daytime lens cuts the harsh end while letting the daytime signal through. By night, you want to hold the blue back - so the Blood Orange lens blocks it, keeping the view warm and letting your body wind down. The colour hasn't changed; the hour has, and so should the lens.

Why "blue light is bad" misses the point
The headline version - blue light is harmful, block it - is catchy and mostly wrong. Blue light is a normal part of daylight, and your body depends on it: the morning dose is what sets your rhythm, lifts your mood and keeps you sharp. Cutting all of it, all day, would work against you, not for you.
The useful version is about dose and timing. The genuinely harsh end - UV and the deepest violet - is worth blocking whenever it reaches your eyes. The rest is a question of when: welcome by day, unhelpful late at night. Get that distinction and the whole subject stops being scary and starts being simple.

Is screen blue light dangerous to my eyes? At everyday levels, most eye specialists consider it low-risk for damage. The common complaints - dryness and strain - owe more to how we use screens than to the light itself. The stronger case for filtering screens is sleep, not eye safety.
Is the sun's blue light worse than a screen's? It's far more intense, but it's also well-timed and largely beneficial. The only part worth blocking is the harsh UV and deep violet, which any good lens handles. A screen's weaker blue matters mainly because of when we meet it.
Should I block blue light during the day? Only the harsh end. A good daytime lens cuts the high-energy violet-blue while letting the beneficial daytime blue through, so you stay protected without losing the signal your body clock needs.
Why do screens affect sleep if they're so weak? Because of timing and closeness. A dim source held near your eyes late at night still tells your brain "daytime" at the worst moment - enough to delay melatonin and push your clock later.
